Hi, Is anyone planning for the FB applications in petrochemical processing plant?. What should be an approach inn this regard?

Dear Thomasch,
when planning for an application in a chemical plant, the first thing that has to be done is the classing of the hazardous area into e.g. Zone 0,1,2 respectively Div.1 and Div2.
When doing this you should try to have as little area as possible classified
as a Div1 or Zone 0.
The next thing is to plan the topology of the Fieldbus in your plant.
Junction Boxes with spur short-circuit protection are available for Div 2
(Segment Protectors) or even for mounting in Zone 1 (Fieldbarriers).
With these junction boxes as close to the field device as possible you can
achieve maximum efficiency of your FF segment.
The next step is to design the power supply for the segment - Power Conditioners offer a low-cost high-power solution.
Since all of this is very much information and the topic is so complex, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
You can obtain some general information about possible topologies and devices at http://www.fieldconnex.info
Best regards / mit freundlichen Grüßen

Do you mean functional safety as in SIS, or intrinsic safety as in Exi?
There is no SIS protocol extension for HSE yet
HSE runs on Ethernet media. The copper media is not intrinsically safe. Fiber optics may be considered intrinsically safe.
Yes. There are users in the petrochemical industries that have adopted HSE.

MTL Instruments/Relcom offer a broad range of Fieldbus power conditioners, field mounting hardware and test instruments. Please visit the MTL website,
ww.mtl-inst.com and click on "Products" in the menu. This will take you to a list that includes Fieldbus products. Also available are comprehensive application notes and guidlines. Another consideration for safety loops is surge protection. If the site is subject to lighting or or surges, the likleyhood of failure can dramatically affect SIL ratings. MTL offers specialised surge protection devices to protect against surges and/or lightning.
