If you could be more specific as to what you want to measure and what you want to do with that signal, we might be able to help a little more.

For example, if you have rotating machinery and you want that RPM to be detected and reported in your DCS via FF, there would be a solution available. If you wanted to measure the output frequency of your site microwave transmitter, there is also a solution - happens to be very convoluted and inelegant but you could do it if you really wanted!

Is your application a more conventional process measurement like a turbine meter or something like that?

Thanks a lot for the reply. Actally its a mechanical positive displacement flow metre. There is a mechanism available for picking up rotational pulses with a switch. These pulses are converted to current and transferred as NAMUR signal. Now this is the story of the field instrument, on the other hand the control system is FF. Please propose the solutions, i know thart there are definitely more than one but i want to opt for the direct most.

Are you able to pick up the switching pulses prior to their conversion to NAMUR ? If so we could recommend a solid-state relay that could amplify the signal back to your FF control system. Do you have an available discrete / digital input available on the FF Control system ? Do you know the approximate range of RPM you would be looking at ? or pulses per second, or pulses per minute (ranging from zero to maximum ?)

As regards the environment, are we talking we talking UL Hazardous Location Classification or ATEX for the sensor ?

I have not seen a frequency/pulse to FF converter. There are a number of possible applications, but the volume is small so major manufacturers may not be interested in making a dedicated device. Perhaps somebody will include frequency/pulse into some existing product such as DI/DO or temperature. Or maybe one of the many signal conditioning companies will make some kind of universal signal conditioner gadget. There are a few other odd signals unaccounted for, such as AC voltage etc. In the FuRIOS report such a "rag collector" ("lumpensamler") device was requested.

The other point I wanted to make is that most people would be inclined to buy a posetive displaciment meter with native FF support (not sure if this exists). In general it can be said that a native FF device will be a better option than a conventional device plus converter, because with a native device you can get diagnostics and other stuff you cannot get using a converter.
