We are currently in the final design and engineering phase of a Pneumatic to FF technology change. We will be implementing HSE as the backbone for our system. Are there any standard procedures regarding the checkout of HSE? Or are there any specifics we should be looking for?

Thank You

First assecrtain that the system you are using is indeed using a backbone based on the FOUNDATION Fieldbus HSE application layer protocol, and it is not just FastEthernet with a proprirtary application layer protocol.

If it is indeed HSE, the host will have a "Live List"/"Network Status Table" showing the devices connected. See more details on HSE commissioning in this paper from the 2003 General Assembly:
http://www.fieldbus.org/generalassembly/hse.pdf

Even if the backbone does not use HSE application protocol, you will still find many points applicable to any Ethernet based control network.

Also look chapter 3 of the book "Fieldbuses for Process Control: Engineering, Operation, and Maintenance" (buy online in hardcopy or download immediately in softcopy):

If you can't buy the book now, you can download chapter 1 (overview) for free in softcopy form. It's free, but you must register an account.
