I'm familiar with the Relcom FBT-3 / FBT-6 segment testers. Are there similar products out there that compete with the Relcom products, aside from the latest offerings that feature a more "embedded" physical layer diagnostic?

one product that offers the functions of the Relcom devices and has some valuable additions- jitter measurement, in-build oscilloscope, short full physical layer diagnostic- is the mobile advanced diagnostic module from Pepperl+Fuchs. Attached is the datasheet of this device.

An excellent product too. It isn't permanently connected, so that eliminates most of the 'it's too expensive' argument and it provides excellent functionality. This is the thing to have if you really want to investigate a segment.
