Beamex MC6

I am investigating a plant trip caused by the connection of a Beamex MC6 to a Yokogawa Foundation Field network. The MC6 was connected to a spare port in the field. The MC6 was set so it would not supply a power source. The MC6 draws approximately 20mA.

The plant tripped when the MC6 was set to scan the network. For the initial scan duration of 2-3minutes the connected Foundation Field Bus devices went into an I/O Alarm State. Once the scan completed the I/O alarm went away and the network resumed normal operation. Without disturbing the physical connection, the network was scanned again. The second scan did not cause the I/O alarm and took approximately 30 seconds. When the MC6 was physically disconnected from the network, reconnected and then set to scan the same alarm and 2-3minute scan time occurred.

No settings were changed on the Beamex MC6, it was used as per the manual.
