EIM MPA Actuator operation

Hi, i am having diffculty operating this device
via remote control. Can anyone tell me how
a multi-port actuator works? Also, i am having difficulty
setting up the ports. Device seems
to be not responding when controlling using the
AO block. Might be my configuration?
Anyone please help me if you have an in depth knowledge
of this particular device, thanks.

Can you clarify what you mean by EIM? The EIM I know makes motor actuators for valves (MOV's) and has only one FF registered product - the DCM fieldbus actuator. I have 12 of them and they function OK. There is a "local / remote" switch on the actuator case - that has to be in the "remote" position for the AO to control the valve.

hi john,

Thanks for your feedback. Yes, I am referring to the DCM Fieldbus Actuator. Here's my problem. The device seems not responding. First, I encountered the Local ESD alarm and removed it by tapping a wire to terminals 27 and 28. The device status seems to be OK now. I would like to know how did you configure AO block? Do you have any idea how a multi-port actuator works? What is the engineering unit used and the PV and XD_SCALE for AO block. Thank you.

hi john,

thanks for the reply. i think my answer to your questions was not posted.
Anyways, you are right. It is the DCM Fieldbus Actuator. MPA stands for multi-port actuator. Do you know how MPA works?
Also, I encountered Local ESD alarm and was able to remove the alarm by tapping a wire to terminals 27 and 28 (Local ESD wiring). I configured AO block, no more error found except for the actuator not responding when controlling remotely. Locally, I also cannot make the motor move.

Do you have any idea how to configure the ports? what is the engineering unit? XD_SCALE and PV_SCALE range? i have tried also configuring the DO block but still encountered no response from the device. I've noticed that if the status is "Open" the readback from device is "Stoped".

Hope you understand my problem. Any valuable information on how to make the device works/motor moves is greatly appreciated.

I am using a DeltaV DCS and the EIM actuators show up as "ED00 Fieldbus OnOff Valve Rev1". Upon further investigation, the DCM is a multi-purpose device. When I looked at Emerson's guidance for AO setup, I believe Channel 4 was called out as "setpoint" which I would suppose is the requested valve position? Nothing was specified for XD_SCALE and PV_SCALE - maybe try 0-100% and see how that works.

Have the limit switches, pot, etc. been set up properly? The fact that you can't run it in manual suggests there maybe something else besides the FF configuration that is the problem. The feedback of open and stopped makes sense to me since the motor will stop once it reaches its end of travel limit.
